This series will lead you through the exciting life of Jeremiah, a prophet in ancient Israel. Jeremiah was a prophet of God to the nations for over 40 years, always warning of judgement to come. Few would listen at all, and fewer still would take him seriously. Jeremiah lived to see the prophecies come true, but for many of those he spoke to, the prophecies spelled death.

Volume 1 – Early Days

This volume will introduce you to Jeremiah and the start of his work as a prophet in ancient Israel.

Volume 2 – As Good As It Gets

The second volume retells events from the heady days of Josiah's sweeping religious reforms. Jeremiah continues his work as a prophet, still warning of coming judgement – unless the reformation becomes real in the hearts of the nation.

"I was twenty-one years old when the letter arrived. It was the most exciting letter I ever received. Written in my father’s untidy scrawl, it had obviously been sent in the joy of discovery and his happiness showed in every word. "The Book of the Law of God had been found!" King Josiah hears the words of God and everything starts to change. Idolatry is forced to take a backward step and the true servants of God have some breathing space. Let the Passover celebrations begin!

Volume 3 – Darkness Falling

Volume 3 – Darkness Falling takes up the story in the twentieth year of King Josiah and continues through the reigns of Jehoahaz and Jehoiakim.

Josiah’s tireless work for God continues to the very end, but can a king really change an unwilling nation? Josiah’s sons Jehoahaz and Jehoiakim rule after him, and Judah enters moral free fall. "As darkness had fallen on me, locked in the stocks, so darkness was falling on Judah." But what about the individuals who listened to Josiah and Jeremiah and shared their faith in God? Will God protect them when the Babylonian army arrives?

Volume 4 – The Darkness Deepens

Volume 4 – The Darkness Deepens begins with the end of the reign of King Jehoiakim – as his body is dumped outside the gates of Jerusalem, and his son Jeconiah reigns briefly over a city under siege.

"Nebuchadnezzar’s army surrounded Jerusalem, preventing any from coming or going, patiently and methodically strangling the life from a beleaguered city in which supplies, once used, could not be replaced." Jeconiah surrenders and King Nebuchadnezzar takes him to Babylon – as Jeremiah had predicted – along with thousands of others. King Zedekiah promises to be Nebuchadnezzar’s vassal, but the new king is weak and easily led. Will he listen to Jeremiah or to his advisors? Can Jeremiah survive the sly schemes of his enemies or will the promised disaster overtake them all? In Judah, the darkness is deepening.

Volume 5 – No Remedy

In this fifth volume of Terror on Every Side! we come to the climax of Jeremiah's work as a prophet. God's judgement will soon be poured out on Judah and Jerusalem.

No-one would believe Jeremiah’s words until it was too late – and now there is Terror on Every Side! The Babylonian army waits outside the city and Zedekiah continues to vacillate instead of providing godly leadership – as food starts to run out. The only hope is to follow Jeremiah’s advice and surrender to King Nebuchadnezzar. But who would dare to do that? "I had known for 40 years that this devastation was coming, but that knowledge had in no way prepared me for the reality I saw spread out before me that day."

 Volume 6 – That Broken Reed

This final volume of Terror on Every Side! retells the end of Jeremiah's work as a prophet. God's judgement has been poured out on Judah and Jerusalem, but what will happen to the survivors?

The leaders of the pitiful remnants of Judah’s army reject God’s command to stay in Judah. Afraid of Nebuchadnezzar and his hordes, they flee to Egypt, taking Baruch and Jeremiah with them – against their will. After making the long journey south, they hope to find peace and safety in Egypt. Yet God’s plans have not changed, and Jeremiah is still with them as God’s voice – they cannot escape his warnings of a terrifying future. Will they listen this time? Meanwhile, far away in Babylon, new terrors are brewing: King Nebuchadnezzar has plans for Egypt…
