Upside Down with Paul
No-one could be more determined to uphold tradition than Saul of Tarsus. Any follower of Jesus of Nazareth was his target, until he suddenly “saw the light” – by meeting Jesus himself. Filled with new understanding, he became a tireless preacher of Jesus Christ and turned the world upside down through his powerful teaching.
Paul was a restless dynamo. Travelling far and wide by land and sea he preached, argued and convinced, often in the face of violent opposition. He formed new congregations wherever he went or strengthened existing ones. Everywhere, in towns and cities across the empire, Paul showed his great concern for every member – or potential member – of the fast-growing body of believers who were soon called Christians.
Upside Down with Paul presents Paul’s story, combining parts of his letters with the framework of Acts, interleaving it with the text of the Berean Literal Bible and many short sketches – fictional glimpses of Paul’s life and work. This is the life of Paul in a way you’ve never seen it before.
The book closely traces the Bible's descriptions of the life of Paul through three exhausting missionary journeys, two years spent in prison because of false charges laid by vindictive enemies, a dangerous trip to Rome as a prisoner, and two more years spent there as a prisoner. We marvel at the stamina and determination of this man who could never do enough to repay Jesus for his grace and forgiveness.
Layout is extremely important since it contains four categories of information:
- an updated form of the novelette, "Paul in Snippets" which presents the amazing career of Paul as described by Luke in the Acts of the Apostles,
- 41 imaginative sketches of events taken from the life of Paul,
- an introduction to Paul, his background, brief biography, journeys and letters, and
- the text of the book of the Acts of the Apostles taken from the Berean Literal Bible with some additional notes and helps.
This book takes up the challenge of presenting such widely-varying information in a format that makes a reader feel at home. "Upside Down with Paul" is designed to make it easy for a reader to feel engrossed while mulling over the life of one of the most important men in the Bible. The internals of printed books are all in black and white (see two sample pages above), while eBooks use colour in the text of Acts as shown in the other two example pages above.
See Bible Tales blog posts about Paul for more background information about the man.
